Hand-knotted carpets are suitable for underfloor heating
The question of whether a carpet is also suitable for underfloor heating comes up again and again:
A carpet behaves like a wool blanket on the floor
Hand-knotted carpets are practically always made of cotton or sheep’s wool in the base and sheep’s wool in the pile. Both cotton and sheep’s wool have a slightly insulating effect here.
What is decisive, however, is that this has no relevant effect on the carpet or the underfloor heating. It is like a wool blanket left on the floor.
Plastic shrinks in heat
Only carpets with synthetic fibers or so-called tuft carpets are unsuitable for underfloor heating. With tufted carpets, the knots are pulled through the foundation, but not actually knotted, but glued at the end on the entire underside. This adhesive can contract when exposed to heat, creating a wavy carpet.
